Roc Homily – Feast of Christ the King 2016 (deux)

we-rule

Luke 23:37f      Christ the King: and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!” 38 There was also an inscription over him, “This is the King of the Jews.”

Who rules?  The Romans ruled the world then.  And they didn’t take kindly to upstarts, did they?

“Prove you’re greater than Caesar!  Prove you’re greater than us!  Prove you’re greater than me!”  Sovereignty means dominating others.  The line of scrimmage, spouses, kids, folks with differing opinions, co-workers, parishioners, clergy, whomever.

The irony here is intense.  How did Jesus prove his greatness?

Ouch.

Who rules?  Whom do we follow?  Really.
