Homilies of John P. Schlegel, SJ, pastor of the Church of the Gesu (2014-2015)

IMG_2002

Fr. John was installed as pastor of Gesu on June 22, 2014. In the months that followed, he brought a huge amount of energy and a creative vision to the parish during his on-the-job training. In mid-January John received a diagnosis of inoperable pancreatic cancer. All of us at Gesu are in shock, in mourning, and praying in hope. Please pray for John’s healing through the intercession of Fr. Pedro Arrupe, SJ, former superior general of the Society of Jesus.

Since his arrival in September, 2013, the parish has been blessed by his preaching. As you will hear, John combines a sensitivity to the Sunday scriptures with a love for the arts, an eye for politics, and a heart for the poor and oppressed. You will hear this in his preaching. Please note that his preaching is worthy enough of promotion. These postings are not simply the result of his cancer diagnosis. Also, these postings are not in chronological order. May John’s words continue to bless many! –roc,sj
