Months before June 8, 1979, I encountered Michael J. Buckley, SJ on the sidewalks near the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, CA. He had that look about him that he planned to say something profound. He approached and proclaimed, “Roc, priesthood will unlock the secret of your life!”

Well, MJB was right. I led a Muzak kind of life back then and didn’t know it. Now it’s more like Beethoven. I’m aware, at least somewhat aware, that all the heights and depths of my life are caught up in God. I didn’t know that then.

I’m grateful for gifts given and received. And I ask forgiveness for how I have hurt any of you. And we’re all caught up in God. –roc,sj
