Gerry Stockhausen, SJ – Scripture Readings for Funeral Mass [3]

The Wake & Funeral of Fr. Gerard L. Stockhausen, SJ – January 16, 2016 [3]

a-Stockhausen, Gerard (1)

The liturgy began with singing, “How Can I Keep from Singing” as over 200 family & friends gathered with 35-40 Jesuits to give thanks to God for Gerry’s life, friendship, & ministry. Fr. Greg O’Meara, SJ, Gerry’s rector at Creighton University this past 10 months, suggested to look at readings from the several days before he died.  John Staudenmeier, SJ, homilist & friend & colleague of Stock’s from University of Detroit-Mercy, suggested the gospel.  Here are those selections…

First Reading:  Isaiah 42:1 – 4, 6 –7   read by his nephew, Andrew Meyers

Second Reading:  1 John 4:19 – 5:4   read by our good friend, Sr. Candice Tucci, OSF

Gospel: Matthew 13:44  read by Fr. Jim Flaherty, SJ, pastor of the Church of Gesu

This is the third of five posts from Stock’s wake and funeral Mass.
