“Remember, you are dust…” [3]
Three Scrutinies are celebrated on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Sundays of Lent for the Elect (those formerly known as catechumens) the purpose of which is to uncover and heal all that is sinful in the life of the elect, as well as to raise up and strengthen what is good in the life of the elect.
Here is a modest proposal:
What if we, the faithful, set our minds & hearts to recognizing & admitting, that is, letting in whatever surfaces during Lent that needs healing, forgiveness, mercy, etc… What if we prayed for freedom from what binds us… And, at the same time, what if we kept watch for what is good in our lives that can be strengthened & blessed…
We all have gifts & blessings. What if we noticed our gifts with gratitude & humble clarity? What if we noticed the gifts of those around us?
We all put up barriers to the mercy of God. Duh. What if we took life itself as our teacher & mentor? So,
- Bouts of anger
- Sexual temptations & acting out…
- Judging others
- Envying them
Life itself has a way of bringing all kinds of stuff up. What if it all could be part of our pathway to turning our lives over to God? That’s what the Preface for Sundays III says…
For we know it belongs to your boundless glory,
That you came to the aid of mortal beings with your divinity
And even fashioned for us a remedy out of mortality itself
That the cause of our downfall
Might become the means of our salvation
Through Christ our Lord…
And for your reflection & greater edification, some music for Lent… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=La0Wfu8qXHM
