31st Sunday Ordinary Time – On Hearing the Word of God [4]

love-your-neighborA Fourth time:

Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One! And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength!

And your neighbor as yourself.

Overview: Moses proposes this commandment.

Our honest and uncensored response to it discloses processes taking place in our inner lives.

The Divine Physician diagnoses our spiritual illnesses as we become aware of what in us fuels our aggressively defensive responses or our basic resistance to the Word.

All this can transpose our lives as we both welcome the Word of God right where we are wounded and surrender to God the very fear, grudges, mistrust that drives us – over which we are powerless.
