33rd Sunday Ordinary Time – End Times & Advent…
Notice the similarities in the gospels for this past Sunday and for the First Sunday of Advent. What are they getting at in their similarity? What are they pointing to?
Mark 13: Jesus said to his disciples: “In those days after that tribulation the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will be falling from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.” [33rd Sunday Ordinary Time]
Luke 21: Jesus said to his disciples: “There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on earth nations will be in dismay, perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will die of fright in anticipation of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. [First Sunday Advent 2018]
The Nativity of the Lord Jesus Christ upends the world. In one sense, therefore, Advent is a season of “getting ready to be turned upside down!” Yikes!
