Deep Calls to Deep Back to Review – 6th Sunday Ordinary Time: Sermon on the Plain
Matthew’s gospel pictures Jesus ascending the mountain to speak to his disciples. “Seeing the crowds, he went up the mountain and his disciples came to him. He opened his mouth and taught them saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit…”
Luke, on the other hand, places Jesus on a broad plain in the midst of those who were coming to him for healing. He taught them saying, “Blessed are the poor…”
What is Luke getting at here? How might it speak to us this Lent 2019? Here are a couple thoughts on that. –roc,sj
