“Ways to Get Through” features folk songs from John Foley, SJ and the late John Kavanaugh, SJ written in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. These ballads, these whimsical jaunts, these deep exploration of the intersection between Grace and human suffering touched a small yet significant number of students, staff and faculty at St. Louis University then. Foley & Kavanaugh concerts were not the usual kind of 70’s happenings. John & John & Jack (bass & electric guitar) delved into human depths with lyrics and melodies that engaged us in a conversation, a meditation.
“Listen to the Angels” – This piece by John Foley has not only been a favorite of mine for a long time, but has had a strong and encouraging impact on me on numerous retreats. John deals with male spirituality, the meaning of suffering, the fear of and submission to the mystery of life possible in suffering without becoming maudlin.
For “theological types,” it is the paschal mystery in song. For “seekers,” it is a journey.
I’m delighted to share this with friends and to help older friends reconnect with some music many of us love. Blessings! –roc,sj

Roy, you asked the right question… There is only one CD ever made from the master tape, as I understand it. Foley has it.
I’ve heard that OCP has offered / hoped to / whatever put it out. Nothing. So, this is a subtle way to get a bit of a groundswell.
Ken Canedo from OCP will be at the Saturday dinner and at the concert. I think a good word to him would go a long way. Hope so anyway! –roc,sj
