The Year of Mercy – A One Hundred Word Retreat 1
Mercy is always given, ever present, forever there for us. Why is it so difficult to receive it and to share it? I believe this to be the key question for the Year of Mercy.
St. Thomas Aquinas wrote, “Quidquid reciptur per modem recipiens recipitur – Whatever is received is received according to the mode of the receiver.”
For the better part of the Year of Mercy, I plan to explore reasons you and I ward off Mercy whether receiving or giving. Hint: it has to do with avoiding our precious and terrible vulnerability that belongs to our oft rejected humanity.
