Unprofitable servants?!?! Wha the…!!!

What was your reaction to being reduced from “Special” status?

This is the passage from Luke I love to hate.  It uncovers my tried and true sense of entitlement.  “Look, I’m a St. Louis Jesuit for goodness’ sake.  What do you mean, ‘unprofitable servant’!  Don’t you realize how much I’ve done for you, God?  Let’s get this straight, I deserve… I’m SPECIAL!!!”

Luke 17:8-10    Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink.  You may eat and drink when I am finished’?  Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded?  So should it be with you.  When you have done all you have been commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.’”
